Lavender Plant

Did you know that a lavender plant could be grown indoors, inside a growing pot?  Some people don’t grown these types of plants simple due to the fact that they don’t have any place in their yard to plant them, or they don’t have a huge field to plant them in.

The trick with planting, successfully growing and harvesting a lavender plant all boils down to the size of the pot that you choose.  Remember that one of the killers of lavender plants is moisture.  If you have a pot that is too small and traps the moister in, this will kill it.  On the flip side, if you have a plant pot that is too large, the root system will get too big and also store too much water, thus damaging the plant.  The key is to find one that is just right.

The root system in lavender plants is large and complex but they do like to curl up in a ball so don’t worry about the restricted space.  Your main concern should be moisture retention only.  These plants are resilient and will most likely survive almost any other torment that we, as novice growers, throw their way.  Watch the water!!

Pruning a lavender plant is not rocket science.  A good harvesting is just about all you need to do prune it. If you cut the flowers off each season that should just about be all that you need to do in order to allow new growth the following year.  With some types of plants, that grow taller, you might need to trim some from the top, but don’t be excessive.
